about dirk smith
Dirk Smith books 300+ meetings and 40,000+ room nights annually in a diversified mix of sports, pharmaceuticals, non-profits and other corporate clients.Visit www.SDNinc.com for more info. In his 30+ years in the industry he has certainly encountered a litany of various sales manager's talents. Armed with that knowledge, he created his interactive training seminars that focus on the pivotal short-term business pursuit. Indeed, typically 75% of his business is "in the year for the year" and usually with less than three months notice.
He has made regional and national presentations for a number of hotel brands and is often summoned to work one-on-one with a property as well.
His career has included serving as the travel planner for the Goodwill Games, Super Bowl and World Cup title sponsors, the Major League Baseball All-Star tour of Japan, and the United Nations 50th Anniversary celebration involving politicians and dignitaries from around the globe. He has been the guest speaker at many travel industry events and a quoted travel research source for Sports Travel, MPI and Men's Health magazines.

The topic was timely, energetic and very well-received by myself and my team. The open forum was wonderful.
THANK YOU for the great training. It was so refreshing to be able to understand the planner's perspective, and the real life examples were excellent.
"I found this seminar very helpful. It was nice to hear from an actual customer’s perspective and how he handled proposals received from hotels."
"Dirk was informative and entertaining!"
"I was glad to be a part of it. He really kept everyone engaged and it was quite interesting to hear from someone on the other side."
"In my 25 years in the industry, this was one of the best presentations that I have experienced."
"Dirk was an excellent speaker and very clever. He could read an entire phone book and I would listen!"

Did you know... ...that prior to launching his company in 1994, Dirk Smith was the Travel Director for the San Francisco Giants baseball team for 12 years?
